The Profile

Foghat are an English boogie/blues-rock band formed in London in 1971 by former Savoy Brown members Dave “Lonesome Dave” Peverett, Roger Earl, and Tony Stevens, with slide guitarist Rod Price joining soon after. They found major success in the U.S., propelled by the 1975 hit “Slow Ride” from Fool for the City and the bestselling concert set Foghat Live. The band has continued with lineup changes; Peverett died in 2000 and Price in 2005, with drummer Roger Earl carrying the torch.

Three reviews celebrate Foghat’s gritty boogie/blues rock with special praise for slide-guitar fireworks and a heavy live groove. Stone Blue gets highlighted for “Midnight Madness” and Rod Price’s blazing slide. Boogie Motel is deemed fun but not their peak, with Foghat Live and Fool for the City suggested as essentials. In The Mood Of Something Rude (a covers set) is praised for raw, in-the-room energy and standout takes on Rodney Crowell and James Brown.
