LA RECENSIONE

First quality release for the newly established digital label Memorial Records, skillfully positioning a young and idea-filled band like Filth In My Garage in their roster right away.

The band in question is indeed making great strides toward an increasingly personal and element-rich sound: if the previous album “Crawling Through The Animals” (released in 2011) presented a still immature project, “12.21.12” is the exact opposite, meticulously detailed and very unique in its form. Three tracks totaling almost 20 minutes of music is certainly not a small amount and at the same time represents a tough challenge even for the musicians themselves, as it is not so difficult to bore with songs that significantly exceed five minutes each. But let's start from the foundation: “12.21.12” is structured as a concept, whose main theme is the much-cited date with which the Maya indicated the end of the world.

In the three included tracks (“Future,” “Past,” “Present”), the moods experienced in each of these three phases are described with meticulous analysis, or as the band itself says, “Or the order of time itself overturned, the world abandoned in the imagination of an increasingly dark future, a past that fails to enlighten us to improve, and the present, the only thing that truly exists.” A decidedly complex work concerning the lyrics and no less in the sound aspect, where Filth In My Garage has brought together years of experimentation in a highly successful mix of metal, math-rock, and post-hardcore. Rhythmic upheavals and guitars with intricate riffs are the order of the day in this work, rich in nuances, contrasting moods, and an expressiveness not previously achieved by these musicians.

In short, a really great work, without a doubt.
