The Ex-Otago, an indie pop band from Genoa, return after four years since their debut, "The Chestnuts Time," with an album of acoustic pop and very lo-fi that has the same effect as a rainbow on a rainy day, brightening and coloring the day, it lights up with every listen, is ironic, carefree, and smiling.

"Tanti Saluti," released by Riotmaker, can be considered the product of the last years on tour for Ex-Otago, with stunning live shows and a metal band attitude (by the way, if they play nearby, go see them, they are unmissable). The album starts with "Luisa," a pop gem (beautiful the background voices shouting "LUISA"), followed closely by "Cooking Ovation," then comes the fresh irony and mockery of "Radio Scapolo D'Oro" and "Senti come pompa," the claustrophobic rhythm of "Amato the greengrocer," the memories of "Robilante," the delicacy of "Song for Sasha" and "Going to Panama," and the Casio keyboards of "Waiting for the stairs." The Ex-Otago sing in very macaronic English, like elementary school level, but they are much more effective than many other English-speaking Italian bands, they tell stories of everyday life ("Luisa" is dedicated to the singer's grandmother, "Amato the greengrocer" talks about a greengrocer who has to close his shop), the raps by MC Pernazza fit perfectly into the structure of the songs, never distorting them, enhancing their emotional or ironic potential.

In short, if you are going through a difficult time, if it’s raining non-stop inside and out, make Ex-Otago's rainbow appear.
