The Profile

Ex-Otago are an Italian indie-pop band from Genoa, formed in 2003. Early lo‑fi, English-sung releases gave way to Italian lyrics and a brighter pop direction, from Mezze Stagioni to the breakthrough Marassi and the follow-up Corochinato (featuring the Sanremo entry Solo Una Canzone).

Formed in 2003 in Genoa; early lo‑fi/English phase (The Chestnuts Time), then Italian-language albums. Mezze Stagioni features production by Davide Bertolini. Marassi (Garrincha Dischi/Universal, 2016) expanded their audience. Corochinato (2019) includes Solo Una Canzone presented at Sanremo and references a Genoese aperitif in its title. In capo al mondo explored India/charango textures. Known for energetic live shows.

Four reviews chart Ex-Otago’s path from lo‑fi, macaronic-English indie pop to a sleeker Italian pop sound. Tanti saluti is warmly praised; Mezze Stagioni marks lyrical maturity; Marassi splits opinions while expanding their audience; Corochinato consolidates the pop turn, Sanremo included, with Genoa firmly in the frame.
