THE REVIEW

"Origin"… .

few people know that this is the name of one of the best Evanescence albums, as it is unfortunately relatively unknown. It was released around 2000, when the American band was at its beginning, in very few copies.

After this brief introduction, let's move on to the songs on the platter. Their genre cannot be reflected in a single type, but since we are talking about Evanescence, it's a gothic/Rock, sometimes even Metal, other times soft and slow. The first 3 tracks will also appear later in "Fallen": "Whisper", "Imaginary" and "My Immortal".

The first and the last without significant changes, the second instead totally different from the 2003 remake. Softer, changes the order of the lyrics and, notably, there was a significant lack of violins that characterize the new version. As a start, it's very good. Followed by "Where will you go", one of the band's best songs, a wonderful start, a 'testimonial' of the style Evanescence had before "Fallen". Let's move on to the trio "Even in death", "Fields of innocence" and "Anywhere". The first very beautiful, tending towards Metal, the second less prominent, the third magnificent, a slow engaging ballad with the intertwining voices of Amy Lee and Ben Moody (…is it him???). "Lies" follows, Heavy with Oriental hints and a background growl. We are nearing the end of the CD and we find "Away from me"… I've woken now to find myself I'm lost in shadow… another good performance by the band. Last is "Eternal" which is purely instrumental.

Let's say it is one of the most mysterious CDs in history… there have been talks of versions that contained "Listen to the rain", a lyrical song, and "surrender", but who knows why… there are also rumors of a hidden track: "Demise" located at the end of "Eternal". There are also strange parts: "Anywhere" ends like "Where will you go" started…. "Eternal" begins like "Away from me". All of this is very strange. Finally, a mysterious female voice in the 2000 version of "Whisper"… destene destene mestyrious poum… this is what I understood… .

The final evaluation of "origin" is certainly very positive. For those seeking something new and especially for Evanescence fans.
