A bit against the expectations of those who anticipated a live show in Rome or at least another location for the highly anticipated return of Evanescence to Italy, on Friday, June 8, 2007, Amy Lee and Co. are instead the headliners of the well-organized Pisa festival which, not surprisingly, holds its own against the renown of the artists present (in addition to the band of "Bring Me to Life," the three-day event also hosted 30 Seconds to Mars).

But let's talk about the concert: after an exhausting wait, the group begins the performance at 11 PM in front of a not very large audience (since it is the second date of a tour that already passed through Milan on November 14 last year), but as always a loving one, also because finally, those who do not appreciate the band have the chance to leave early.

The line-up has changed since the last time: Rocky Gray and John Le Compt have indeed been replaced by two members from Dark New Day, namely Will Hunt on drums and Troy McLawhorn on rhythm guitar. This change, although the result of an unclear and certainly not a cheerful affair, has brought a significantly improved aspect to the band's live performance which, also as a result of habit, had reached sufficient levels. The new drummer brings indeed new life and much more suitable rhythms for Amy's pop edge lyrics, while Troy completes with riffs slightly more precise than his predecessor.

The concert, aided by the location and the number of people present, is almost a ritual: 16 songs taken from both "Fallen" and "The Open Door" (the latter performed almost in its entirety), all beautifully rendered by Amy's stage presence, the band leader but above all an excellent live singer as well.

Moments to remember include the thanks to the Italian fan club, the intro of "Good Enough" interrupted and repeated by Amy due to the overwhelming emotion given to her by her fans, not to mention the ballads "Lithium", "My Immortal", and "Your Star" (this one, as Amy explained before performing it, full of meaning since one of the gifts from the fan club was precisely... a star!). From the heavier side, Amy and her band do not lag behind: the classics "Bring Me to Life" (missing the male part) and "Going Under" fit well with the new less alternative and more metal sound of "Weight of the World", "Sweet Sacrifice", or "The Only One".

A reconfirmation then for fans and for those who have always loved the unique sounds of Evanescence.
