After the release of "Dying in Your Latest Fashion," the very young emo/metalcore band Escape the Fate (literally "Escape the Fate") returns to gift us with new emotions.

Behind the release of the new full-length "This War is Ours," there are not a few problems for the band originally from Las Vegas. It was May 2006, and during a brawl, the group's former vocalist, Ronnie Radke, was involved in the death of an eighteen-year-old due to a gunshot. "Ronnie" couldn't be the culprit as he was unarmed: it was a friend of the singer. Radke confessed to being guilty after his friend, who was supposed to serve the sentence with him, committed suicide. Due to various problems, the group stopped touring in 2008. In May 2008, the band announced that recordings for the new album (indeed "This War Is Ours") would begin with a new singer Craig Mabbit, while Radke was expelled from the group.
In October of the same year, the CD was released, containing 11 exclusive tracks plus a bonus track in the European version of the disc.

The band offers new tones and more melodic tracks than usual... although the guitar riffs remain mostly aggressive and sharp as usual, in old ETF style.

1 - "We Won't Back Down" - Opening track containing a decent solo from guitarist Bryan Money and lyrics, if one can say, without meaning... Rating: 6.0

2 - "Onto The Next One" - First decent riff of the CD... nothing special except for the somewhat sentimental chorus... but... all is quiet... Rating: 6.5

3 - "Ashley" - Very beautiful single, sentimental, touching... in the lyrics, it refers to this "Ashley," and says she is everything... just to get an idea, here's a part of the translated lyrics: "Ashley darling, you make me feel so alive, shine like the brightest star, you are the strength I need to fight, you are the reason I keep trying"... I don't particularly love this type of songs, but this one is fantastic. Rating: 8.0

4 - "Something" - This single is also particularly touching... it was the second released from the album to which they made a video. Very beautiful. Rating: 8.0

5 - "The Flood" - Absolutely fantastic single... first use of scream by the singer, aggressive and fast riffs. First single released. Rating: 8.5

6 - "Let It Go" - Horrible track... poorly made... there's not a single decent thing... Rating: 4.0

7 - "You Are So Beautiful" - Beautiful single... to praise the mix "Romantic Text-Aggressive Music" that makes the song one of the best on the album... and Craig doesn't lack scream and growl! Truly wonderful. Rating: 9.0

8 - "This War Is Ours (The Guillotine Part 2)" - Here is the title track... the song starts off strong with a very high-pitched and fast solo, while in the verses and choruses it becomes even deeper. The singing is practically all growl and scream, except in the choruses. Absolutely indescribable, when you listen to it you feel like smashing everything. There's also a slower part after about halfway and then another amazing solo follows. The title says "The Guillotine Part 2": "The Guillotine" is precisely a track from the first record (yet in my opinion, with "The Guillotine" it has nothing in common...). The best song on the album in my opinion. Beautiful. Rating: 9.5

9 - "10 Miles Wide" - Nice guitar riff and chorus... but nothing more... Rating: 7.5

10 - "Harder Than You Know" - Perhaps the most melodic track of the album... and by far the most touching... then the singer's voice captures and truly moves you... the lyrics are among the most romantic I have ever read... Beautiful. Rating: 8.0

11 - "It's Just Me" - Nice track but nothing special... nice chorus... lyrics without any meaning... Rating: 7.5

An unusual CD for me, as I'm used to strong and violent sounds... but the melodic and romantic songs still have something inside that captures you... and since I too feel emotions, being a human being, I like these songs... there's nothing to do.

Fairly nice album... remarkable the singer with his splendid voice that can move you. I think the track-by-track here is perfect as there is a lot of diversity in the songs...

I hope that the DeRece is liked by readers... Byeee
