A man with a will of iron! A man who never gave up! This was Sir Shackleton!!
Ernest Shackleton, five years after the discovery of the South Pole by the Norwegian Amundsen, organizes an expedition to cross it on foot, and it's not an easy task. He didn't have the equipment that we have! However, the expedition takes a bad turn, the ship gets trapped and crushed by the pack ice, and it all turns into a heroic rescue where willpower and determination prevail over the extreme adversities of the Antarctic continent.
Years ago, a group of expert sailors retraced the entire expedition route and...nothing, they had to give up, and they are still wondering how those heroic guys managed to save themselves.
They fed on seals and penguins, killed the dogs to keep warm and cover themselves...different times, different temperaments.......
All told with extraordinary realism where wild nature reigns, but man is capable of great feats.
It would be wonderful to make a crossing in Antarctica, a bit like Poe's Gordon Pym, getting lost in the blinding glare of the sun and under winds that blow at unspeakable speeds, eating seal fat, and maybe smoking something to help with fear and bewilderment......
One of the most beautiful adventure books, it flows smoothly and takes you to the last page while maintaining a high adrenaline rate.
