Miraculously making their way under the spotlight of the international "alternative" scene (well...), probably aided largely by the Myspace phenomenon, Enter Shikari finally release a genuine Full-Length in 2007 (after a few EPs and the usual Myspace songs).
What has guaranteed the success of this band is undoubtedly the unusual mix of '80s synthesizers laid thickly on solid metalcore/post-hardcore foundations. The amusing thing (depending on your perspective) is that the metalcore component, although decent, certainly doesn't shine for creativity, brilliance, or liveliness, yet the alchemy with the electronics is such that it makes a product that would otherwise be lackluster quite appealing (for those who follow the genre). On the other hand, saying this album would be rubbish without the synthesizers is like saying Buffon wouldn't be worth a dime without his hands... in other words, a pointless argument.
And so praise to the electrifying duo "Enter Shikari"/"Mothership" - the two most intense tracks on the album - to the party-laden and rhythmic "Sorry You're Not A Winner" (complete with hand-claps), and to the syrupy yet darn catchy chorus of "Ok, Time For Plan B", in short, praise to Enter Shikari for managing to build their success on one good idea. And if they don't deserve it, who cares.
There is no evolution without mutation.
Music that... manages to revive a genre affected by static immobility like the 'core' scene.
The synths with the tacky riffs are absolutely terrible!!!
Digesting over an hour of heavy guitars + synthesizers + various other strange influences is a formidable feat that definitely exceeds the limits of my abilities.
