THE REVIEW

It makes me very sad and especially angry to review this album knowing that at most sixty people or so will read my words. Knowing that even those who listen to "metal" and should thus be potential consumers of my reviews, will rather direct their browsing to more interesting sites (and we all know which ones… if you want, I can give you the links ;-)).
But... enough. I intended to spit some general hate in this review (in the end, I realized I did it anyway), especially towards those who don't listen to metal and think they're smart for it, or at least believe they are, towards those who have "Rich(ione)" written on their ass or those who act so alternative when there are thousands of people who listen to the same music and dress like them, deluding themselves into thinking they're the only ones, in a desperate and forced attempt at self-delusion; DE-Baser is, after all, just one of the few positive symptoms/effects of this.

This is a CD of what is called Viking metal, incorporating black roots (very few) and a lot of folk/epic influences, hence a significant use of traditional instruments including a 36string Kantele(???). That's it.
I've also wasted too much time trying to convince someone, not to convert them, but at least to bring them closer to metal, I did my job... then if you want to remain in ignorance with the rest of the populace, go ahead... I don't care.
And I could have also written my city's phone book and many wouldn't have noticed the difference :-)

So much further off than time could reach / Today it would be too late / So much despair he has bled but will he wither

The review passionately praises Ensiferum's debut album as a powerful Viking metal work with rich folk and epic influences. The writer expresses frustration about metal's underappreciation and the difficulties in convincing others to appreciate the genre. The album features traditional instruments like the Kantele and touches on black metal roots to a lesser extent. Overall, it is seen as a significant contribution to the genre.
