THE REVIEW

In the year of our Lord 1992, four new emissaries of the Nordic Darkness descended from the perpetual glaciers to bring new life to the black-symphonic metal scene. Their name was Emperor.

The first cry of the dark creature shook the entire continent with its load of innovation. It was a mini with only four songs, but it changed the conception of black metal forever. From furious, devastating, obsessive sounds, often based on a single riff, it transitioned to a violence equally raw but with sinister and unsettling connotations.

Four terrifying tracks, gems of a black diadem composed of a guitar background based on fast passages, suddenly replaced by dark and cadenced solos, sinister keyboards that break the unbearable anguish to insert a more refined and anxious one... a truly impressive voice, by the way, that unfolds in the above-described soundscape. Growl and scream merge into a chilling vocalization, a fine instrument of spiritual torture.

Noteworthy is the opener "I Am The Black Wizard," the focal point of the EP and an excellent introduction to the immortal "Wrath Of The Tyrant." It is followed by the funereal "Night Of The Graveless Souls," oppressive and violent, culminating in the majestic, malign "Cosmic Keys To My Creations & Times."

A demonic ride through the torments of infernal fire and Nordic ice.

"'Wrath Of The Tyrant' is a near-mystical experience capturing Emperor's grim power in a single EP."
