I need to practice reviewing and to start, I chose "Craccraccriccrecr", one of the most criticized albums by Elio & company. Strange, because it's the most versatile and diverse album of their career; the songs range from the rap of "La visione" to the lyricism of "Farmacista". But without further ado, let's start with a track-by-track review.
"Evviva/ La visione": an excellent track: it starts like a march and then turns into a wonderful parody of rap in Jovanotti's style; it was a great idea by the Eliis to choose this track as the leading single of the album. 9/10
"Il rock and roll": very heavy and rocky sounds (many tributes to Cesareo) but the problem with this song is the lyrics: too repetitive. And the fact that the track lasts almost eight minutes doesn't help much, fortunately, the music is excellent and easy to listen to. 7.5/10
"La bella canzone di una volta": same as "Il rock and roll", the text is very repetitive, and the music doesn't help much; it's saved because it's short and quite pleasant overall, but it doesn't drive you crazy. 7/10
"Che felicità": great Bracardi who performs one of the most entertaining songs on the album: a little march that raises the qualitative peak of the CD. It's a divertissement, but a very successful one. 8/10
"Farmacista": perhaps one of the most underrated tracks on the album: "Farmacista" successfully combines lyricism and rock in four minutes, and trust me, that's no small feat. Kudos. 7.5/10
"Bobbi Burs (baby birds)": the late Feiez takes us by the hand and accompanies us in this little country song that lasts just over three minutes. A bizarre but interesting interlude. 6/10
"Nudo e senza cacchio": are you familiar with "Uomini col borsello" and similar songs? Well, this song falls into that category, perhaps a bit more surreal than the others. Fun and successful. 7.5/10
"Mustasì": this track is one of the most peculiar ever recorded by the Eliis: indeed, this song has lyrics, but they are not sung in the song (why, I don't know), making it the first instrumental ever recorded by Elio e le storie tese. 6.5/10
"Beatles, Rolling stones e Bob Dylan": nice... but only for the lyrics, fun and surreal; the music doesn't convince me. A pity, it could have become one of the group's must-haves. 6.5/10
"Caro 2000": the year 2000 is approaching and the Eliis dedicate this track to it, in which they tell the famous 2000 not to be so full of itself, because there will also be the 98003 or the 100000. 7/10
"Bacio": it's the first time a track by Elio e le storie tese made me say "What is this stuff?": The only failed track of the album; I feel sorry for poor Cesareo, who finally got the chance to sing, but this track is the apex of ugliness. 4/10
"Sogno o son desktop": from the worst track to the best track of the album. A true manifesto of the group, the track talks about prostitution and finding a way to make love for money without prostituting. An indelible gem. 9.5/10
"Discomusic": let's hit the dance floor with some disco dance; sure, the track is boisterous and danceable (in fact, the Eliis submitted it to the Festivalbar), yet it is a better track than many others on the album. 8/10
"Bis": and we arrive at the end with an encore; the piece was born to mock Ligabue instead it became a huge scrapbook of concert memories. A rather deep slow piece despite the various expletives in the chorus. 8/10
Overall, the album is very good, certainly not the best by the Eliis, but it's lovable for being very diverse. Overall rating: 7/10
The laughter starts even before listening to the CD, as soon as you see the bootleg cover.
Elio’s voice is not that of any ordinary singer, and it is demonstrated with 'Farmacista' where the big guy ventures into opera, the result is nothing short of spectacular.
The album perhaps also suffers from the loss of Feiez, which did not go unnoticed.
So an all in all good album, deserving of 4 stars without much ado.
