Today I had this inspiration, so I will talk to you about the (perhaps) most debated album by Elio E Le Storie Tese, namely the unpronounceable "Craccracriccrecr". Certainly, a somewhat creaky title, as indeed is the album itself in some places. But it cannot be said that the group's inventiveness has run out (something that has never happened before, to be honest). The album perhaps also suffers from the loss of Feiez, which did not go unnoticed. Anyway, our darlings present us with a really comprehensive tracklist (16), where it is easy to find great songs but also some silly ones.
Let's start with the intro "Craccracriccracker", a tribute to the late saxophonist (I couldn't help but think there was some sort of tribute to the bells of "Hells Bells" by AC/DC), and continue with the double song "Evviva/La Visione", with a rap background but with unmistakably usual lyrics for our jocular friends. The whole piece doesn't really conclude, except for the exaltation of the "vision of the pussy up close".
"Centuries pass, millennia pass, men who alternate in governments pass. Pass the ball because playing is fun in a group, but what doesn't pass is the arrogance of the powerful; they know no shame, they know no embarrassment, that's why their word is just a squalid lie. And I pray to Mother Earth with my eyes to the sky: illuminate the way in this black hole"
The fourth track is "Il rock and roll", a genre that the Elii themselves admit to loving, without leaving room for techno, fusion, jazz, or hip hop; this track is certainly quite long, it seems never-ending, but it is pleasant to listen to due to its really heavy rhythm. Then comes a very amusing track, "La bella canzone di una volta", with a very '50s rhythm, and with the voice that comes and goes, like on vinyl records (a video was also made, not particularly excellent). The sixth track is "Che felicità", where a coarse middle-aged man, Roman, sings; nothing complicated, given the repetitive chorus "I'm an asshole, a son of a bitch, ohohoh, I wander around, like a jerk, ohoho, what happiness". It's here that the album begins to creak. Fortunately, it quickly resumes rhythm with the lyrical introduction to the track "Farmacista", which condemns the spasmodic use of health products and the advisories of psychologists; one of the happiest moments of the album. The eighth track, "Bobby Burrs (Baby Birds)", is one I just can't explain, and in my opinion, it adds nothing. The subsequent "Nudo e senza cacchio" is one of the most successful tracks on the entire record, with truly funny and original lyrics.
"I'm a mustachioed woman but always liked on my knees for you. You criticize my savoir-faire, but then you want me to 'faire'... If a man came all naked and without a cock who stayed at my house for his whole life, his whole life with him naked and without a cock, without the anxiety of contact that makes you sweat. Because even a rich, handsome, and intelligent man does not necessarily need his cock. I will not be a bell for his clapper because he is naked and without a cock."
Following are "Mustasì" and an interesting "Beatles, Rolling Stones e Bob Dylan", which mocks the rivalry between the two rock groups of the early '60s. The 12th track is "Caro 2000", also very ironic, welcoming the first year of the new millennium, but reminding it not to be so full of itself:
"Listen, you know that we expect a lot from your arrival, like a valid vaccine against HIV to make love in Europe without the little computer problem that goes tilt: it doesn't recognize you (chorus: 'four!'), it thinks you are (chorus: 'three!') 900 (chorus: 'two!') and instead you are (chorus: 'one!') 2000 (chorus: 'Yeahhh'). You think you are the best year of the future. Don't you know that next year there will be Space Odyssey? Feel the weight of responsibility, don't you think about those who will come after like the 4000, the 6000, the 19000, the 30000, like 98003 or 100,000. You are no one. You think you are the future but you are not."
Another creaky track follows: "Bacio", a beat piece without any pretense. We proceed with an interesting title, "Sogno o son desktop", where Elio "dreams of a world where it isn't necessary to prostitute oneself to make love". We approach the end with "Discomusic", a track often favored in live performances (in the last one I saw, a splendid medley along with "Pipppero" and "Born To be Abramo" was performed. The final track has something moving and apocalyptic: "Bis", an invitation not to worry, because the Elii will always have this "damn damn damn ENCORE" in store. "Cicciput" will also be a demonstration, a reconfirmation of the fervent imagination of this group, truly an honor for our music now ruined by artists like Masini, D'Alessio, and others. So an all in all good album, deserving of 4 stars without much ado.
PS: at the end of autumn, don't miss the new album; having heard three previews, we are already sure we need to own it.
The laughter starts even before listening to the CD, as soon as you see the bootleg cover.
Elio’s voice is not that of any ordinary singer, and it is demonstrated with 'Farmacista' where the big guy ventures into opera, the result is nothing short of spectacular.
"Craccraccriccrecr is the most versatile and diverse album of their career."
"Sogno o son desktop: A true manifesto of the group, an indelible gem."
