The Profile

Electronic are a British supergroup formed by Bernard Sumner (New Order) and Johnny Marr (The Smiths). Active from 1988 to 1999, they fused synth-pop and alternative dance with guitar pop, releasing three studio albums and hit singles including Getting Away With It, Get the Message, and Disappointed, with collaborations from Neil Tennant and Karl Bartos.

Core members: Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr; debut album Electronic released in 1991; follow-up Raise the Pressure in 1996 (with contributions from Karl Bartos); third album Twisted Tenderness in 1999; collaborations with Neil Tennant (Getting Away With It, The Patience of a Saint, Disappointed); noted singles include Get the Message and Feel Every Beat.

Three reviews cover Electronic’s arc: the acclaimed 1991 debut, a polished 1996 follow-up with Karl Bartos, and the fresh 1999 closer. Writers highlight the Sumner–Marr blend of synth-pop and guitars, armchair-ready dance moods, and standout singles. Overall tone is appreciative, with the debut and sophomore praised and the third noted for its renewed spark.
