LA RECENSIONE

What a record! This album by the Uzbek pianist Eldar Nebolsin is a classic. Of course, it’s not an album I would listen to every day, also because Schubert is a composer not easy to listen to, but as they say, you have to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar.

The album starts with a bang; indeed, the Sonata in A minor No. 4 D. 537 has a truly overwhelming beginning, making it absolutely unmistakable. This piece was also part of the lineup of a concert that reached the status of authentic, absolute, and indisputable super classic, namely the concert that the immense Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli held in the now distant 1981.

Summary by Bot

Eldar Nebolsin’s album of Schubert’s Sonatas No. 4 and 13 plus the ‘Wanderer’ Fantasy is a compelling classical piano work. It’s noted as a classic recording though not for everyday listening due to Schubert’s piano complexity. The powerful opening of the Sonata in A minor No. 4 is especially praised, recalling legendary performances by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.
