This album doesn’t contain even a crumb of that gaudiness that characterizes the music of too many metal bands.

In The Woods...'s Omnio is a highly praised metal album that transcends traditional genre limits.  If one were to choose which five groups more than others have made progressive rock into what it has become, the Nice would be among the first to be mentioned.

Ars Longa Vita Brevis... starts that blend of classicisms, psychedelia, and jazz that will go on to form the musical genre we all love so much.

The Nice’s Ars Longa Vita Brevis is a seminal progressive rock album blending classical music, psychedelia, and jazz. Led by Keith Emerson’s virtuoso organ and piano work, the album showcases innovative tracks like "Daddy, Where I Come From?" and "Little Arabella." While the second half is less focused, the overall mix of styles and experimentation marks the band as key progressive pioneers. This album is a must-listen for fans exploring prog rock’s journey. Discover the roots of prog rock—listen to The Nice’s groundbreaking Ars Longa Vita Brevis today!

The Ladder has the merit of finding a good balance between pop and prog, and essentially almost every song on the album is catchy, well-produced, and not too predictable.

The lyrics, as usual, don’t mean a damn thing, but we were used to that anyway.

The Ladder by Yes tries to recapture the classic Yes sound but only partly succeeds. The album balances pop and progressive rock with mostly catchy and well-produced tracks. Standouts include Homeworld and New Language, though some songs feel gaudy. Lyrics remain abstract but fitting for the band. Overall a decent 3-star release. Discover the blend of prog and pop in Yes's 'The Ladder'—listen now and explore the standout tracks!

"O Caroline is the catchy-song-that-stays-in-your-head, a song that every good album possesses."

"'Signed Curtain' uses lyrics that simply state the part of the song being played, creating a meta-musical divertissement."

Matching Mole's self-titled debut album features a mix of catchy melodies and experimental progressive rock. Robert Wyatt leads with his distinctive voice while tracks vary from sincere ballads to dissonant and meta-musical pieces. Though not all songs are memorable, the album offers a rewarding listening experience overall. Listen to Matching Mole's debut and explore a unique mix of catchy melodies and experimental progressive rock!

"Some of the best pop ideas of the entire Canterbury scene, and remarkable more experimental tracks."

"A delightfully pop piece that fades into a delirium of dissonances held together by Wyatt’s drums."

Soft Machine's first album is an underrated classic blending pop melodies with experimental avant-garde elements. Standout tracks like "Hope For Happiness" and "Why Am I So Short?" showcase the band's innovative style. Despite not achieving widespread success, the album remains a key work in the Canterbury scene and progressive rock history. Listen to Soft Machine's debut and explore the roots of Canterbury's experimental sound today!

Above all, of course, dominates Salguiero’s voice: angelic, deep, and gentle as one might expect.

It doesn’t say anything particularly new, but it says it well. And that’s enough for me.

Madredeus' album Movimento stays true to the fado tradition while introducing minimalistic and Brazilian fusion elements. Teresa Salguiero's angelic voice shines over well-crafted songs that maintain interest even instrumentally. The inclusion of keyboards is more prominent, adding a new texture though somewhat divisive. Standout tracks include 'Anseio (Fuga Apressada)' and 'Afinal - a minha Canção'. Overall, a very well-made album that honors tradition while exploring subtle innovation. Listen to Madredeus' Movimento and experience a masterful blend of fado tradition and subtle innovation.

"Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh is a cross between Wagnerian music, jazz-fusion, progressive, and opera. Incredibly, it works."

"It’s not the kind of record that can be appreciated on the first listen, but anyone aiming to put together a serious collection of rock albums shouldn’t overlook it."

Magma's 'Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh' is a groundbreaking 1970s progressive rock album led by visionary drummer Christian Vander. Sung in the invented Kobaian language, it fuses opera, jazz fusion, and Wagnerian influences with complex odd time signatures. The album demands attentive listening and rewards with a unique sonic experience, especially highlighted in the track 'Ima suri Dondai.' A must-have for serious rock collectors. Dive into Magma's unique prog journey—listen to 'Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh' and experience the epic fusion of music and language!
