Ten years pass. Isabel and Francesco still have not had children. From tests, the woman discovers she is sterile and wants to confess this to her husband. However, Miranda, now the housekeeper of the Salinas family, convinces her to lie and make Francesco believe he could be the one who is sterile. The two women then blackmail the Salinas' trusted doctor and force him to provide false test results. For Francesco, who has always wanted children, this is a harsh blow, and his marriage with Isabel goes into crisis. In the meantime, Isabel discovers that she suffers from a degenerative dermatological disease that gradually disfigures her beautiful body, making her even more resentful and hysterical.
Meanwhile, Manuela has grown up and looks exactly like Isabel.
By pure coincidence, Corrado suddenly remembers that he met a girl resembling Manuela in Buenos Aires years ago and begins to suspect that this could be the daughter he has never known. When he presents himself at the Salinas' home, Corrado finds himself face to face with Miranda, and having cleared his doubts, he wants to know about the daughter; however, when he is in front of her, he does not have the courage to say anything. Upon returning home, the man wants to tell Manuela about Isabel's existence, but he doesn't get the chance as he suffers a heart attack and dies.
To recover from her father's death, Manuela reaches her cousin Rudy in Rome; on the plane, she meets Francesco, who is also headed to the Italian capital for business. The two experience love at first sight: Manuela is captivated by Francesco's charisma and attentions, while he is enchanted by the girl, identical to his wife but with a sweet and lovely character. Once in Rome, the two spend time together and end up starting a relationship. However, Francesco does not reveal to Manuela that he is married...
