In '77 (I mean, in 1977) everything happens, it can almost be considered like '45 or '68, but Patrick Juvet was still looking for the woman "avec les rires pleins de larmes": a big hit, but certainly not among the French women (and not just) of the Mouvement de libération des femmes (MLF). Even the little birds know that one should not pass through the yellow toxic fumes coming from the chimneys of the industries in this city, Ravenna, represented by Antonioni as distracted, anonymous, and absent, thanks in part to the use of a particularly cold photographic palette (the first color film by M.A.).
We humans (with the H) know it too, but our neurotic, stubborn, and somewhat cowardly nature means that we inevitably do it anyway.
A bit like in Aesop's fable of the frog and the scorpion. Sometimes we are the frog, sometimes the scorpion, but the final result doesn't change.

In this scene from Antonioni's film Deserto Rosso (1964), the fog takes over the pier by the sea, and the characters appear and disappear wrapped in it; this is how the protagonist sees people, with her eyes filled with the pain of living: they are there, they exist but they are absent, indifferent, and disillusioned.

This scene was shot at one of the four piers that can be seen at the entrance of the port of Ravenna, it is one of the small ones, and it is no longer as we see it in the film; it has been completely rebuilt. You can stroll there now just like back then, and the misty winter atmosphere hasn’t changed Il Deserto Rosso

In the iconic and anarchic film 1997: Escape From New York from 1981 (released in the midst of the Reaganian hedonism period? Was that what it was called?), director Mr. Carpenter does almost everything himself, or rather, he stitches together the film's soundtrack in his own way, which will become a cult but at the same time a pseudo-synonym of trash, with its catchy lines that linger in adolescent memory ("Chiamami Jena/Call me Snake" says Plissken/Russell in one of the opening scenes). There are many scenes worth mentioning, but I choose the arrival of the Duke, with his parade of battle-equipped cars led by the famous Cadillac featuring crystal chandeliers and a disco mirror ball inside. You Are is a sweet lullaby with a few notes repeated obsessively throughout the entire piece; the sound of his guitar creeps in, Sanchez's drums, and gradually, like in a soundtrack, the rest of the orchestra accompanied by a choir, a choir that is an instrument. From the album "From This Place," released just before the apocalyptic COVID-19, February 2020, Pat Metheny and a largely new group, apart from Antonio Sanchez on drums, present us with this long dream as the opening track, which, as the title suggests, summarizes an undefined place: his America. About halfway through the piece, the intensity and drama of the sounds rise a bit like in Finding and Believing from "Secret Story": well, for me, he did it on purpose to make me cry and those few others affected by Methenyte.
