Mother Africa
It's true that, listening to the track "Mother Africa," featured in Santana's album "Welcome," released in 1973, one can find the genuine roots of African American music, the main musical expression of the twentieth century. To the notes of the piece, it's easy to imagine oneself immersed in the African savannah...
Alberto Radius - Nel ghetto
Maybe it's the best way to remember Alberto Radius who unfortunately left us today.
Them - Gloria (Live in France)
Van the man wasn’t exactly satisfied being part of the Them group back in the '60s, but this rendition of the song "Gloria" is so electrifying that it would make even a drowsy guy dance wildly. And the Parisian audience clearly appreciates it a lot. Thanks, Van!
Renato Zero - Triangolo 1978 _ Edizione Restaurata
Just to give an idea of how the Sanremo festival is always behind both musically and in terms of culture and mentality. In the latest edition, there was a big scandal regarding Rosa Chemical, and in the late '70s, there was a certain Renato Zero in Italy. The latter, in turn, was late compared to certain representatives of glam rock like David Bowie, Marc Bolan, and Lou Reed, who were innovating in the early '70s. I also clarify that I have never been a fan of Renato Zero (nomen omen), a pale copy of the aforementioned Anglo-American musicians.
Welcome
Back in high school (mid-'70s), a classmate of mine argued that this version of "Welcome," performed by Carlos Santana, seemed too slow and therefore less effective than John Coltrane's original. However, in my opinion, it is just as beautiful for its rarefied and dreamy atmosphere, almost reproducing the sound of a cascade of diamonds and precious stones, well-suited for an evening listen after an intense day. Moreover, in 1973, Carlos Santana was still inclined to explore jazz musical territories and had not yet succumbed to easy outcomes of Latin pop. Definitely worth revisiting.
Ten Years After - Good Morning Little Schoolgirl
If anyone has forgotten, over all these years, a band like Ten Years After, they would do well to give them another listen in this performance of this rock blues standard. Authentic energy in its purest form to use when you're in high spirits and in sweet company (by the way: Happy Valentine's Day...)
Led Zeppelin: Live on TV BYEN/Danmarks Radio [Full Performance]
And staying on the topic of rock supergroups, here’s the performance of Led Zeppelin on Danish television in the early months of 1969. Their groundbreaking debut album has just been released, and they are already touring the world to further establish their presence. The entire performance is thrilling, and Robert Plant's voice (just twenty years old) is edgy just enough. An unmissable page in the history of rock.
David Crosby & Graham Nash - Guinnevere - (LIVE) - BBC-TV 1970 (HD)
One of those songs meant for performing in the evening, on the beach, in front of a bonfire. Thank you David for all those magical pieces created over time...
Cream Farewell Concert 1968 (Complete in Real Time)
A historic page: the last concert of the Cream, held in London in November 1968. Despite some technical limitations in the recording, listening to three legends like Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker (the latter two are no longer with us) is always a great pleasure, genuine ambrosia for our ears. For those who don't know, it was the first rock supergroup and right after came the great Led Zeppelin. Enjoy the listening!
Cream Farewell Concert 1968 (Complete in Real Time)
When we talk about the first rock supergroup, here's what we mean: the Cream. This is their last concert held in London in November 1968. Although the technical quality of the footage isn't the best, the musical talent of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker remains. The latter two, unfortunately, have passed on to the great beyond. Of course, the great Led Zeppelin would come later, but the concert of Cream remains nectar of the gods and ambrosia for our ears. Enjoy!
