Them - Gloria (1964, Original and Best)

Good morning everyone, I imagine that some, as has already happened these days, will wrinkle their noses at my latest choice; probably many have forgotten about it or don’t even know, but a large part of what we listen to today comes from our musical roots. This time I’m including "Gloria" by Them (Van Morrison) from 1964, discovered by me as if we were conspirators, at 2-3... in the morning on Radio Luxembourg, Radio London, and Radio Montecarlo (back then), because only during those hours were we able to listen to the medium waves of those foreign broadcasters (FM didn’t exist yet), since RAI stopped its transmissions shortly after midnight and the other radio waves that were broadcasting came in clearly, featuring artists completely unknown here, such as Creedence Clearwater Revival (whom TonySoprano reminded us of in his latest post), Byrds, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Jimi Hendrix, Kinks, Who, Beach Boys, Jefferson Airplane, MC5, Janis Joplin, etc.

p.s.: dear @[llawyer] I wonder why I came up with this hashtag this morning? perhaps a strange case of foresight for this ungrateful day today? who knows

Fabrizio De Andrè - NELLA MIA ORA DI LIBERTA'

"In my hour of freedom"

"To breathe the same air
as a prison guard doesn’t sit right with me
so I decided to give up
my hour of freedom if there’s anything to share
between a prisoner and his watchman
that isn't the air of that courtyard
I just want it to be prison
that isn’t the air of that courtyard
I just want it to be prison.

It started an hour earlier
and an hour later it was already over
I saw people come alone
and then together towards the exit

I didn’t expect your mistake
men and women of the court
if I had been in your place…
but I can’t be in your place
if I had been in your place…
but I can’t be in your place.

Outside the courtroom on the street
but also outside it all out there
I asked the best of my face
for a debate of dignity

so many grimaces, sneers, frowns,
try explaining that it’s spring
and then they know it but they prefer
to see it."
