In the seventies, they undoubtedly produced two masterpieces of Progressive: "Nursery Cryme" and "Foxtrot." The post-Gabriel era, on the other hand, is frankly forgettable.

It's hard to judge the monumental work of an artist often teetering between experimentation and banality. For this reason, I'm convinced that many who quote him haven't listened to him seriously, and many who do listen to him seriously struggle to truly understand him. All the others, to avoid misunderstandings, prefer to speak well of him.

He didn't invent anything, but he really revitalized the guitar style of the '70s by writing great riffs.

Truly great as a frontman and as a songwriter, only slightly adequate as a singer. The fame of the character, well-deserved nonetheless, makes the lack of pitch go unnoticed, which emerges especially in ballads like Angie or Lady Jane (I would have loved to hear him sing “in section”). Besides, the other Stones initially had quite a few doubts about his vocal abilities and more than once considered replacing him (listen to the careless interpretation of “Tell me” on the first self-titled album).
