Ragged, vulgar, crazy, completely independent. The first punk collective in history. At least 3 masterpieces: The Fugs' First Album (1965), The Fugs (1966), and Virgin Fugs (1967) are among my all-time favorite records. A certain Frank Zappa will take notes...

The Afghan Whigs

Unfortunately, while recognizing their talent, this band has never really captured me. I quite liked "Up In It," the only one of theirs that I enjoyed from start to finish.

Unwound

An incredible band, often overlooked. From the abrasive and chaotic noise of their early days, then venturing into almost Math territories [Challenge for a Civilized Society], they reached the end of their career in 2001 with one of the most beautiful, dense, personal, and dreamlike works in history ["Leaves Turn Inside You"]... Immense.
