Good, beautiful and badass Conditioned by repeated listening

In the photo: how you are (1) when listening to good music and how you risk becoming (2) when listening to trivial musical pollution.

  • But is it possible that people in 2007 still listen to Dream Theater? (P.H. Houston)
  • The more you listen, the more your review becomes misleading. If you listen ten times, you've simply self-conditioned: the more you listen, the more it seems a masterpiece, because obviously you discover always greater details.
  • If you've listened, read, watched very little, your judgment is really made up out of thin air, whatever it may be.
  • In rock music, rarely is the fame a musician enjoys proportional to their artistic talent (unlike, for example, classical music). The fame of a rock musician is almost exclusively proportional to how sellable their face is on MTV or how well they fit into current fashion.
  • Unfortunately, many bands start playing terrible music as soon as they become famous. You're confusing cause and effect. And many bands become famous because they give up their personality and adopt fashion stereotypes.
  • If many knowledgeable and competent people who know music appreciate them, does it mean they might have some merit or not? No, the "stars" you mention have no merit. It's the marketing managers of their respective record labels who have obvious merits. You're confusing the product with who created it. The hamburger you buy at McDonald's is an object, it has no merit. The marketing manager of McDonald's who rented space at Pza di Spagna and put up posters around Rome has all the "merit" for how good that hamburger turns out to millions of customers. Without that marketing manager, very few would taste that hamburger, and those who do would find it at best mediocre. The hamburger has no merit or demerit.
  • Their insistence is simply mafia-like attempts to make a critic change their opinion (if you don't change your mind, I will ruin you)
  • Above the people the church thrives, beneath the church the people perish (anonymous)
  • Greet with joy!
