Steven Spielberg Munich
Voto:
Spielberg is a director who often embodies an American way of making movies that I detest; there are still a few films of his that I haven't seen, like Minority Report, Empire of the Sun, and Lincoln, but to date, I find that Munich is the best film he has made, not only in terms of direction (which is always, without exception, of high level) but also in terms of content, characters, and storytelling. In my personal ranking, it is followed by Duel (the first time I saw it, I was sweating worse than the protagonist due to the tension) and Schindler's List (you really can't say anything negative about his historical films). As for the rest of his filmography, I salvage very little, just the D-Day scene from Saving Private Ryan, the special effects of Jurassic Park, and a few cult scenes from Jaws, a film I respect for its significance as a pioneer of a genre (a genre that has produced shit in industrial quantities, by the way), but which doesn’t excite me much.

I was particularly struck by the evocative shots of "Altre Americhe" in 1970s South America and the dramatic ones from Ethiopia in the 1980s. Then there are the haunting images of the Rwandan genocide. A truly excellent documentary. Personally, I detest the ever-growing number of people in recent years who "consider themselves" photographers in every sense.
Woody Allen Hannah And Her Sisters
Voto:
The classic "Woody Allen-style" film has all the ingredients that made his comedies famous: a star-studded cast, neurotic characters, and exquisite comedy (especially when the hypochondriac contemplates the great themes of existence). I found the sort of happy ending a bit jarring, which probably contributed to its success at the Oscars. I consider it superior to both "Husbands and Wives" and "Harry in Pieces," yet I still vastly prefer the bitterly poignant "Crimes and Misdemeanors."
Gaspar Noé Enter The Void

Ok, first thoughts in freedom after watching... let's start by saying that it's definitely not a film recommended for epileptics. The opening credits I would describe with an adjective that falls somewhere between exhilarating and overwhelming. The protagonist's lysergic trip in the first minutes of the film seems visually to be an heir to Bowman's journey through hyperspace, and I really appreciated it. There's a lot of sex, drugs... that kind of nighttime Tokyo reminded me a lot of the atmospheres in Dirty Beaches' album "Drifters/Love is the Devil." Then, as Noé himself rightly said, there's a lot of melodrama. It's also one of the films that portrays the concept of reincarnation in the most convincing way. There are really thousands of facets; it's definitely worth watching again multiple times.
Ingmar Bergman Il Posto Delle Fragole

A touching journey through the memory of this solitary doctor, blending road movie elements with dreams that stir the unconscious. The character of the daughter-in-law Marianne is excellent.

This album blew me away with its compositional quality. Pop with a punch and a lo-fi sound... definitely my heart album of 2013. A round of applause for the reflection even if it may not examine the album thoroughly enough.

Just finished watching it, definitely a great movie... the connection that develops between the two protagonists and the neighbor is amazing. The scene on the skateboard (longboard, to be precise) with "Wonderwall" and the expanding screen is worthy of a standing ovation. Excellent reception, just one note, the format is not 4:3 but 1:1 (which I found quite oppressive). Some stunning color choices, like the yellow of the first dinner with the three of them together or the dark blue in the street dialogue between Kyla and Steve during the blackout. I also appreciated the frequent use of out-of-focus shots to emphasize different moments. for anyone who might have missed it.

George Miller Mad Max Fury Road
Voto:
beautiful review, indeed after those two minutes of trailer what can one exclaim if not "THE MOST TOTAL WAR!!!!!!" ehm... Anyway, I haven't seen the first 3 Mad Max movies either and I'm not really that eager to do so, however Tom Hardy + that trailer definitely deserve a watch. It actually feels strange that Miller goes from Babe and Happy Feet to this...

A truly enjoyable film, with great and frequent moments of hilarity, and an intense and moving relationship between the two protagonists. A special mention goes to the unstoppable Omar Sy.
