THE REVIEW

Sure, it would be nice to be complete; it would save me from every embarrassment. The embarrassment of not knowing how to communicate, for instance. Perhaps this is what bewilders me when I'm faced with someone who can do it impeccably. At least, though, it's not the first time I've felt this unhealthy sense of inadequacy and ineptitude when talking about a work. What a consolation.

Anyway, it's about Enter - The Void. Once again Gaspar Noé. Someone said that to evaluate it, we should add a few extra stars to the usual five that the website provides, while someone else is a detractor. I thought that quite simply the film begins exactly as it ends.

It begins with one of the most astonishing opening credits I've ever seen in my life, and ends as one of the most astonishing films I've ever seen in my life.

Technically unassailable, masterful screenplay, constant depth. To be clear: for me, it's enough with the intercourse filmed from inside Linda's vagina. To be clear: for me, it's enough that with forty seconds of flashback (three or four scenes) the director explains the protagonist's traumatic past to me. To be clear: for me, the hallucinatory journey of lights and colors that the film represents and stages is sufficient. To be clear: the narrative approach is enough for me. To be clear: immersing myself in the compelling overhead shots of a Tokyo perpetually dark and lit only by artificial lights during the protagonist's post-mortem extrasensory experience is enough. To explain myself: a single parameter is enough, without continuing the list, to make me boil.

The degradation fused with hysteria and inner nothingness, strongly influenced by events. A promise, sealed with a blood pact between brother and sister: too early orphans of their parents, inevitably orphans of themselves.

I know, these reviews are starting to get heavy without even a hint of a plot. But what can I do? Come here to talk, describe, tell, journalize, blog. I don't give a damn, at most I can recommend something to you and give you one and only one guarantee: it's not possible to remain indifferent to this cinema. Whether it disgusts you or makes you thrill, the crossroad is between one peak and another.
