Dream Theater Black Clouds & Silver Linings

I agree with Stoney in every syllable of his last comment... Slint, Tortoise, Battles, Jesus Lizard, and Pere Ubu would definitely piss off DT fans, especially since if they don't hear a barrage of ultra-cliché references and hyper-technical solos every 2 seconds, they get bored.

Well, being surprised by Dream Theater's plagiarism is a bit like being surprised that Emilio Fede kisses Silvio's ass.

I also think they are underrated in the '80s/'90s hard-rock scene. The review gave me a colossal sense of melancholy...

Nirvana was a great band, but there were dozens of others in the alternative scene of Seattle and more broadly in the United States from the mid-'80s onwards. The fact that they were so influential can mainly be attributed to the enormous promotion they received, pushed even beyond their own will... all the bands from Subpop and similar labels saw massive sales thanks to the "boom" of Nevermind, and for several years, there was nothing but little groups imitating the pioneers in sound and style.
