Ron Thal (listen to the songs from his band, the Bumblefoot, they do a sort of crossover and he has impressive technique), Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Michael Romeo, not to mention the god of guitar (at least among current guitarists): Andy Timmons!! And there are quite a few others... That doesn't change the fact that JP has made a fundamental contribution to the creation of wonderful songs...
