Alright Alex, the Stones are the most important rock band in history. Bye.

The Stones may have been influential in their stage presence, setting a standard idea of a rock band that nearly everyone has reused. But on a musical level, I’m sorry to say, they invented nothing. They wrote great songs, that’s undeniable, but they never even sought innovation; they would tell you that themselves if you asked them. To deny this means not knowing the history of rock.

The groups I've mentioned I appreciate a lot, but they are the antithesis of innovation; they are the most reactionary there is. But it's not a fault; it's simply a fact. They played pure and simple rock'n'roll, with shades of blues and R&B if you like, but as far from innovation as you can get. Those who truly innovated were groups like the Velvet Underground and a few others... I repeat, I don't want to cast aspersions on anyone; on the contrary, I appreciate a lot of classic rock, but to say they invented rock is a monstrous lie...

In my opinion, the Rolling Stones play a very standardized genre, and their work can only be evaluated within those canonical frameworks of blues, rock'n'roll, country, and r&b. One cannot expect originality from them since it is not their goal to pursue it; they aim simply to play what they loved in the '60s. It's a bit like criticizing the Allman Brothers Band, Creedence, or Rory Gallagher for being unnecessary because they are not original. None of them claim to be. It's only rock'n'roll... the Rolling Stones didn't invent anything, but if you don't like anything by them, it might mean that you don't appreciate the simple and spontaneous roots of rock.

This is one of those albums that no one pays attention to, yet it is a sublime work of art. To listen to and listen to again... it stands out clearly above the mass of post-rock albums. Surely the best work of its kind in 2003, on par with "The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place" by Explosions in the Sky and "Happy Songs for Happy People" by Mogwai. The review could have gone into a bit more detail...

"After a few years later, after some new members and after some haircuts"... do you know the existence of expressions like "subsequently" or "afterwards"? Well, then how do you review an album that doesn’t exist, I don’t know...

Yes, but oh, if the reunion is the only way I can see a band, what can I do? Should I give up? I was a kid when Rage were at their peak; I’ve watched filmed concerts from that time and they didn’t seem much better than the concert I saw the other night… and then to tell me that in terms of historical importance, a performance from the golden years is more relevant, I agree, but in terms of musical quality, I think the concert in Modena was at a high level. And I’m content with that. As soon as they invent a time machine, I’ll jump back to hear Hendrix in '69, the Cure in '81, Pink Floyd in '71, Tool in '93, and so on... for now, there’s nothing I can do…

Those old-timers who say "eeeh, when I used to see them it was a whole different thing" are pathetic characters, to say the least. I hope I don't become like that in twenty years... I gladly would have gone to see Hendrix at the Isle of Wight, too bad I was born 14 years later. For me, seeing RATM for the first time in my life is definitely an event... and if there are arrogant and intolerant people who only enjoy shitting on what doesn't belong to them, they can go fuck themselves! Damn, in '93 I would have gone to the Rolling Stone if I was old enough, but unfortunately, I was only 9 years old, so does that mean that any concert I see now is shit?

Yes, yes Kyklos, in fact I haven't rated the album because it would seem unfair to evaluate a work until one approaches it in the appropriate way. When I manage to do that, I will be able to express myself... for now, I can only make some personal considerations. :)

Oh, I’m an ambient lover but here it’s over the top… there’s no man in nature who can listen to all 4 albums of "Loops" in a row… boredom reigns supreme… maybe I should listen to it under the influence of something… but at that point even the Smurfs' theme would become amazing… I got bored and I usually have boundless patience…
