Massive Attack Heligoland
Voto:
In my opinion, Heligoland has fallen into oblivion because people expected a certain type of sound: they were disappointed and thus filed this album away as ā€œbad,ā€ ā€œuseless,ā€ or worse, ā€œdisappointingā€.... as if artists were obligated to meet our desires and couldn’t follow their own course.... Mezzanine is one of the most interesting albums of the '90s, but listening to Heligoland with Mezzanine tracks (or any other album) in mind makes no sense at all; let’s try to detach ourselves a bit from the past and enjoy what Massive Attack presents to us today. If we don’t do this, we would be doing a disservice both to ourselves and to the band.

Excellent point. Big up to the Cold Meat Industry, which along with Avantgarde, Cold Dimensions, and Behemoth Production has some great things in this metallic/crazy/noisy realm, in my opinion.

Very, very interesting, spotted in the store but I preferred to grab the latest from The Ocean. The review gives a great idea of the album.

Everything is great! How are the instrumental albums? Do they still stay within this range of "good quality easy listening" or do they go a little beyond?

Sorry, do you know any site where I can download the three movies (and maybe also Bartle's underwear)? Thanks to anyone who helps me with this!

I was just re-reading some X-Men comics recently and I felt like watching the movies that I totally ignored... I think they’re fun in the end, and now and then something like that is needed, especially if it’s done well.

Moreover, it was Fenriz himself who said that A blaze in the northern sky was recorded and composed in a hurry to comply with contractual obligations to Peaceville. The label had probably already sensed the potential not only of the band but especially of the entire scene...

It’s true that starting from the late 80s to early 90s, American death metal was dominant (much less so Swedish), and this is also why in Europe, particularly in the north, new bands began to emerge with a completely different attitude, imagery, and sound. Darkthrone certainly contributed to the rise of the black metal scene (and the hype surrounding it, as has always been known and confirmed by many figures, foremost among them Burzum), but they came AFTER, starting from '92… and until '92, northern Europe was overflowing with semi-emerging black metal bands that had released at least one or two albums, first among them being Mayhem, who had been around since '87, if I’m not mistaken. Black became trendy ALL OVER THE WORLD around '94, also due to the events we all know, but until that moment, in northern Europe, it was a genre well-known to metalheads… and this is solely due to the various local bands and Euronymous, the true founder and promoter of the movement, thanks to his Helvete. Darkthrone were important but were among the last to jump on the black metal bandwagon.

Fenriz and Nocturno Culto are two clever tricksters: in my opinion, they sell what is actually trending in the black metal scene as a sincere and natural desire to return to their roots... After all, the career of Darkthrone has always been marked by changes (albeit minimal), I don't know how much of that was truly intended and felt, starting from their origins when they played death metal, which they abandoned both because Norwegian black was gaining popularity in the early '90s and because this was their way into Moonfog... That said, I will listen to this latest one also because I didn't dislike Darkthrone & Black Flags.

The sample piqued my curiosity, as did the rest of the review. I don't know, the first thing that comes to mind to associate after all this whirlwind of description are some tracks from California by Mr. Bungle... but it might not relate at all.
