Brujeria Matando Gueros

@Sir headly: listen to his new project, Divine Heresy, where besides his classic rhythm he showcases solos and some more technical stuff. I think the drummer from Hate Eternal plays in the band too (or am I saying something wrong?).

Tepes, you talked about lack of originality; Brujeria are neither better nor worse than many grind groups that crowd the scene, so I don’t fully understand your criticism... if you can’t stand them or they don’t suit your taste, that’s another story, but tastes are tastes if you don’t like the band. Regarding the belly Cazares: when it comes to Asesino, I agree with you, but less so about Cazares; his guitar style is among the most copied and emulated in the genre, let’s say he’s a sort of pioneer of palm muting (I think that's how it’s written, I’m not a guitarist) fast and ā€œbrokenā€... And finally: since when have Brujeria been making serious songs??? Are you sure about that?

Oh yes, Dino Cazares, Shane Embury, Jeff Walker, Nick Barker.....just musicians who are worth nothing, picked up off the street....Brujeria may not have churned out masterpieces or reinvented a genre, but they are a unique blast, death-grind played very well, with a strong dose of irony and their own charm. Let’s take bands for what they are, trying not to ascribe merits every single time, and we would enjoy the music in a much more spontaneous and sincere way.

I asked if Sean Reinert was gay just out of curiosity, since I read it somewhere and wanted some confirmation (I also believe he isn’t, anyway), and of course, he can have any tendencies he wants, he remains one of the best drummers, metal or not /// That this new bassist is good is beyond doubt (I wish I could play like he does!!!), we’re always talking about very skilled musicians; however, compared to Malone, in my opinion, he gets overshadowed. Sean's playing style may seem "excessive" because first and foremost he is a jazz musician, before being a metal or rock player or anything else, he remains a jazz musician, and as such, he has a certain way of understanding music and his instrument... that said, in the first album Malone's bass work fits perfectly, it complements all the other instruments simply because Aghorà is much more jazz-fusion oriented; Formless is more metal-oriented (I don’t hold that against it, rather the opposite) and therefore: different line-up, different playing style, different album. The fact remains that Aghorà are absolutely amazing, always and in any case.

I fundamentally agree with the review: not a bad album, but less heartfelt and more mechanical. The first self-titled album is a true masterpiece; you can feel that it's of a different caliber and played in a different way. In my opinion, the drastic change in the lineup has significantly contributed to the way Formless sounds: Serra may be talented, with a jazz background and all that, but I don't think she manages to reach the expressiveness of Rivero... and the same goes for the new bassist: Sean Malone leaves him in the dust; the class and ORIGINALITY of his rhythms are absolutely unique. Moreover, it seems to me that Reinert only played on some tracks, not even on all of them. I apologize for the length of the post, but when it comes to Aghorà, I get a bit carried away, sorry again ;-)
