Look at these ugly mugs, what a beautiful album they've pulled out of the bag! How dare they copy a bit here and there, add their own touch, and even manage to be original! Who am I referring to? Well, to the Kaothic of course... and you might ask: who are the Kaothic? The question is more than justified... The Kaothic is a Spanish band dedicated to a genre more or less identifiable as progressive death metal, but they amuse themselves drawing inspiration even from genres like Meshuggah-derived complex thrash metal, without shying away from musical nods towards modern thrash.

The band was formed in 2001 in Madrid by Alberto Marín, guitarist and mastermind of the band, aided on drums by Marcos De La Calle, David Curtonates and Gustavo Romero on bass. It is with this "Order To Chaos" dated January 2005 that the band reaches the much-desired artistic maturity, but let's analyze this product better.

Comprising only 7 tracks for just over 37 minutes, this LP is a true concentration of technique and power, accompanied in a predominant way, compared to the past of the band, by melody: right from the opening track "Sphere", they showcase an ability to build songs that, although they always follow a well-defined logical line (even if not easy-listening), always end up being complex and dynamic: you will thus be assaulted by powerful riffs, supported by a rhythm section present and creator of constantly evolving tempos. The vocal part is the most varied, ranging from spoken parts to clean ones, up to powerful and very angry growls, without disdaining parts that can be likened to Metallica-style thrash.

The compositions flow extremely smoothly, without displaying excessive flaws, even though at times, more personality (a feature which in general, however, the band does not lack, see what I wrote in the beginning) and less desire to overdo it would have been appreciated.

Though not entirely devoid of flaws, this "Order To Chaos" is a really well-executed product, endowed with a good feeling and its own groove, which if not a masterpiece, is still an extremely pleasant album. The performance of all the musicians is excellent, with a sincere applause for the guitarist Alberto, able to pull off classy solos and arpeggios (the opening of "Strange Confusion" continues to move me every time, and the melodic line of "Raven" is nothing to scoff at!) but also to the bassist who does not just follow the drum beats but more than once provides some very classy solos.

The last words of this review I want to spend on the recording quality, truly powerful and crystal clear, worthy of the most celebrated groups in the metal scene, with very clear and well-distinguished sounds from one another.

Happy Listening.
