Emiliano Pagani, Daniele Caluri Don Zauker Esorcista - Operette Morali

"how much more treacherous, misogynistic, violent, pornographic, blasphemous, and politically incorrect can you read in a comic book today": I agree. Not to mention authors like Ausonia, Officina Infernale, Alberto Ponticelli, and others......damn me, I still bite my hands for not having picked up this collection at Lucca Comics!

Cute, but nothing more for me. Aside from Third World Genocide, The Blessed Void, and Sacrosant, the other tracks didn't impress me much; the fact remains that this record has an incredible production for the genre, and the drummer is a beast, which is a spectacle (and who cares, he’s from Converge!). There's also the singer from the lesser known (to me) The Hope Conspiracy. For the record, this album was released by Southern Lord.

Mastodon The Hunter (Deluxe Version)

I’m reposting my comment from another review: "Yet another change of direction, yet another transformation (or is it always the same?.....). In this album, they’ve really set out to write proper songs in the most 'classic' sense of the term, and the beauty of it is that they crush it even in this style, with a taste, a refinement, and a level of songwriting that many can only dream of; nailing catchy choruses that are not cliché, in my opinion, is no easy feat......I see The Hunter as a more synthetic, more relaxed version of Blood Mountain, more like a colorful trip when it hits you right. And if this is just a parenthesis (?), well, I can’t even imagine what else they’ll come up with."

Another change of direction, another change of skin (or is it always the same?.....). In this album, they've started writing real songs in the most "classic" sense of the term, and the great thing is that they still kick ass in this guise, with a taste, a refinement, and a level of songwriting that many only dream of; crafting catchy but not trivial choruses, in my opinion, is not an easy feat...... I see The Hunter as a more synthetic, more relaxed Blood Mountain, more like a colorful trip when it hits you right. And if this is a brief interlude (?), well, I can't even imagine what they will come up with next.

Other planets, certainly not these. The review among the favorites.

You've piqued my curiosity quite a bit, especially if, as you say, this band has explored various genres and styles. Is there an album you would recommend starting with to get a sense of their sound? Congrats on the review!

Joe Yamanaka passed away on August 7th due to lung cancer, which had been diagnosed back in March 2010. Among other things, besides being the singer of the Flower Travelling Band and an actor, he was also a singer for The Wailers for five years after Marley’s death.
