If they hadn't wanted to sell records, Vedder could have easily continued being a gas station attendant and playing in a Red Hot cover band. With gas, the job is pretty much guaranteed for life, and the Red Hot are always liked by both dogs and pigs. But instead, commercialism caused a disaster. What a pity..

Great album, I truly believe it's the best band that the Seattle scene has produced. And I say this reluctantly when I think about what Soundgarden could have offered and what they threw away with Down on the Upside. The review is well-written and well-argued.
