The Who The Who by Numbers
Voto:
Don't even get me started. Even today, when I strum "The Song Is Over" on the piano, I enjoy it like a hedgehog.
The Who The Who by Numbers
Voto:
It's the third album by The Who in my ranking of favorites, which goes like this:
1) Next
2) Live at Leeds
3) By Numbers
4) Quadrophenia
5) Tommy (of which I'm definitely not a fan)
It's peculiar that "By Numbers" features music devoid of synthesizers, while the previous album "Quadrophenia" is overflowing with them (too many! More synthesizers than musical themes... always the same five or six repeated multiple times throughout the album) and the one that follows ("Are You") is not lacking in that regard.
This "By Numbers" is a "dry" album, chronologically nestled between two so to speak "wet" ones... the first of which is even pompous and bloated, with excellent songs here and there but ultimately verbose due to its thematic repetition.
Fleet Foxes Shore
Voto:
Well, I have the first three by the Foxes. This is the fourth, or am I missing something in between?
For the genre they play, they've engaged me very little: the instruments don't combine anything particularly interesting and, as for the choruses, I notice a certain imprecision, which is a serious flaw given the role these vocal parts have in the economy of their music.
Sooner or later I will also own this CD; as soon as I find it, online or at a fair, for less than ten Euros or thereabouts.
Back Door Back Door
Voto:
The left-handed Colin Hodkinson is an outstanding bassist, as well as the only reason for me to endure their music, which I find tedious (extremely dry fusion, practically jazz, played in a trio of drums-bass-saxophone).
Uriah Heep Sea of Light
Voto:
Discone.
It amazed me a lot at the time: spot-on melodies, killer choruses.
I place it on par with the first, and seminal, four albums of his career.

Edit to the review: "On the occasion of Ken's passing, yet another great musician who left us this unbelievably terrible year, I have revised the syntax, particularly the paragraph breaks. Thank you forever, Ken." See the old version Proud Words On A Dusty Shelf - Ken Hensley - recensione Versione 1
