Marydolls Live at B-side-Rende(CS) 8-05-2008

@sickman_84: I read some of your comments, are you from my area too?
"The Marydolls are obedient to the paradigm, but as we know, mimesis is at the core of artistic creation, since the times of Homer. Following a canon does not necessarily entail mediocrity or a lack of personality. After all, in Italy, we are full of fundamentally grunge bands who are ashamed of their background, mediocre yet so praised, masters of blunders and absurdities that become embarrassing over time. If the Marydolls are copying Nirvana, at least they're doing it well."
The Marydolls and Homer in the same breath? And where would personality be, in the bassist's curls? This would score a 1 just for the nonsense in this paragraph, moreover, it's unclear what the rambling about the Sublime and the Uncanny had to do with it. At least the knowledge of Italian grammar is there, "and in these times, that's no small feat."

I have the impression that they write better than they actually are worth. After reading an equally enthusiastic review here on DeBaser, I got one of their albums (L'etre Las - L'Envers Du Miroir), which I listened to distractedly and found truly heavy and boring (even though these could have been flaws specific to that album). Moreover, I really see very little folk, since it’s practically classical scores.

The fact, Kid, is that you refer to this group/scene as if knowing them were the most normal thing in the world. I would have said the same thing to you if you had reviewed Nile, sticking to the terms of comparison mentioned earlier (which was just an example, after all, I certainly don't consider myself an epigone of Tepes musically speaking). As for the rest, I agree with you; it’s good that there are people willing to write about realities that are distant, my intervention wasn’t directed at that aspect of your work.

Kid, I don't know, it sounds stranger to me that someone searches for "Guillemots" on Emule and talks about them as if they were an extraordinary band, I don't know, better than Led Zeppelin (I assume that the troglodyte reader who has never even heard of this extraordinary band must feel quite troglodyte, indeed), rather than someone going to listen to, not to mention Cadaveric Crematorium, but any other countless rhetorical Death Metal band. I don't know, I've still found a Nile album in Italy, never the Guillemots, just like I've heard of a Nile live performance in Italy, never the Guillemots. I don't know, if you think it’s normal to buy albums abroad then... in light of all this, my astonishment doesn’t seem so unjustified.

They are not among the top bands in my personal ranking.
And who cares? XD
Iron Butterfly Heavy

A band made immortal by Bart Simpson, who replaced the church hymn sheet with "In the Garden of Eden" by "Eeron Butterfly" XD An unforgettable moment.

"God bless the fake files on eMule. Some genius on the Kadu network (those outcasts with Fastweb know what I'm talking about) thought it would be a good idea to give notoriety to an unknown transalpine artist, one Thomas Walter, known as "T.", by zipping his self-titled album from 2005 and passing it off as the new Guillemots release."
But is there really someone who listens to this stuff? And even someone who seeks fame by passing off fakes on eMule for this?
Angelo Badalamenti Twin Peaks
Voto:
I disagree; in my opinion, Badalamenti's works cannot be fully understood when separated from the Lynchian context. They represent the perfect counterpoint, and therein lies the genius, but I believe they are not enjoyable on their own, nor were they created to be so.
Lene Marlin Lost in a Moment
Voto:
I foresee a series of bad votes... Lene Marlin is not very appreciated on DeBaser. The review isn’t great, the preamble seems quite unnecessary (so a good third of the page) and it says almost nothing about the music, which, if I remember correctly, doesn’t convey much joy for life; in fact, the merit of this unpretentious pop was precisely its melancholic and at times even poignant nature.
Today Is The Day Today Is The Day
Voto:
Interesting is the parallel with Neurosis. I'm not familiar with the album in question, but I know Today Is The Day well, and what you've written perfectly conveys the idea from both a technical and a lyrical perspective.
