The other day, though, I was talking to my cousin, and he was telling me that on the label of Valium under "ingredients" there's a link to the review of Massimo Volume's Blechtrommel.

I haven't seen the film and it has never really attracted me, but I can’t say anything bad about the director after that amazing film, The Sixth Sense. This, well, actually the concept as it appears could have been developed in an interesting way (the environmental discourse should always be at the top of the agenda for all of humanity). From the comments, it seems to me that it wasn't... anyway, for the joy of Fiquata who says I always talk about (Y), the little brunette with the blue eyes is really cute!

Already Blech be careful, you might risk writing a normal review... let’s hope not! Anyway, as I always say (and I’m not proud of it) I’m one of those Italians who read less than one book a year... and I’ll add a super-off-topic comment: even though I’ve only read a few stories, I like Buzzati and I’d like to explore him further one day. I liked "La boutique del mistero," or something like that.

One in a hundred people from Bergamo knows the Melvins? That's not a bad average... anyway, come on Franci, I don't agree that Bergamo is musically isolated at all. In my personal experience, I've noticed that the closer you get to Milan, the more rehearsal spaces systematically increase. Just details, though.

@Hardrock92, as I've tried to say, I share many of the things you've written. However, I believe the music is there, as I've had the chance to see live as well. In their concerts, there's substance and few frills. As for being "pioneers of rock in Italy," I wouldn't say that, especially because in Italy there are at most a few "little rock bands" (like them or not, I personally like many "little bands"), with few exceptions. @Franci, I also agree with you, except on the "couple of decent albums," which haven't shown up.

It's not just because of the lyrics; that's a formal aspect, I get it. I don't think that to have content there necessarily has to be an explicit meaning. It's their music, let's say their art in general, that seems lacking in depth to me; I don't know how else to put it. And so do other bands, especially Italian ones close to this genre—actually, the Verdena seem to be among those who "feel" it the least. It annoys me mainly because I can glimpse a trend in this.

I've never felt it, as far as punk (American at least) I've always been more devoted to the West Coast although I also like stuff from the East.

I agree with comment 22 by Bartleboom; it was what I wanted to say, but better expressed.

Not a bad review, you must be a real Motorblast fan to review a demo; I liked them a bit in high school but then gradually liked them less and at times they even got on my nerves... however, in the realm of contemporary Italian rock, I judge them to be among the few truly respectable ones. Derivative, yes, but now a little less so, they've managed to shake off the ghosts of their idols a bit, but in the beginning, definitely yes. Anyway, live they have good energy, they're not bad. One thing that bothers me about these bands is that they seem afraid to put any substance into their music; and I'm not just talking about the nonsensical lyrics, that's the least of it. PS I think we're even worse off in Brescia.

I know I’m about to say something that sounds a lot like an obscenity, but I used to listen to this album as a kid when I spent my life between books (few) and video games (many). I don’t listen to it anymore, but I think that’s not a bad thing. Of course, viewed from the (correct) perspective of a reviewer, that is, as a pop-rock album.
