I’m consuming it these days, really touching, an almost masterpiece, which manages to be both immeasurably ambitious and surprisingly accessible. I completely agree with your four and a half, but now I feel like rounding it up... hehe. And zzzzzzz, Emily is also my favorite. Great Joanna!

Thank you so much Kid A and Mario! Kid A, if I can suggest, take Lost In Space before this one. In my opinion, it's the best in Aimee's discography. The Forgotten Arm is solid and well-written (the lyrics are magnificent), but, as I said, slightly inferior. Bye bye!

You are absolutely right. In fact, my reflection was merely about the type of tools used, but there’s no doubt that even in terms of arrangements, the last albums (especially the latest one) leave a lot to be desired. I don’t think I'm saying anything new, but I believe that Enya is in a kind of creative cul-de-sac, partly due to the formula of her style, which is hard to renew, and partly because the recent marches have been very successful, so predictably she continues down that path. I honestly don’t know how she could break out of it, but then again, I don’t think she wants to; she sells a mountain of records...

I agree with MAH when he says that Enya's music is now hardly renewable; back in the day, it was almost a musical revolution, and today the magic of breakthrough albums (yet perfectly in line with the past they evoked) like this one and Watermark is difficult to replicate. Another issue (in my opinion) with Enya's recent albums is the progressive compositional laziness of this nonetheless great artist. In her last album, Amarantine, she merely repeats the clichés of previous records, and some tracks are truly disappointing (It's in the rain is really terrible, in my opinion). I’m not sure how beneficial it would be for her music to utilize acoustic instruments. A more subdued instrumentation, for instance without the multivocals, might risk highlighting the compositional sparseness of her latest creations. However, I would be curious to listen to a more "composed" and less "produced" album from her.

Among Enya's albums, this is the most singular and unusual episode, and perhaps because of this, it is one of the ones I appreciate the most. Great review.

Okay, forget what I said... I just found out it's from '92 - I urgently need a refresher.

But is it a recent release??? I've never heard of them, but 4AD rarely gets it wrong. Great review!
