Yes, I adore them and the review does full justice. But is it true that Emma Pollock was supposed to release a solo album for 4AD in 2006? Kid A, do you know anything more about it?

Don't worry flood, if I'm not mistaken, the same Tori hasn't used it for a while now... so you're justified!

Although I’m a fan, I don’t think I’ll buy the box set: the latest Tori unfortunately gives me the impression of an artist scraping the bottom of the barrel, convinced that everything she produces should be taken as pure gold. This collection is yet another confirmation of that. That said, the content will undoubtedly be worthy (after all, we’re talking about Tori), but it’s precisely this kind of operation that makes me grimace. Great review anyway :)

cptgaio, you haven’t been aggressive at all; in fact, I’m pleased to share my thoughts with others on artists I love. I just knew that the statements in my review could easily be misunderstood, so I wanted to clarify them. I agree with you about the importance and influence that Aimee has had and continues to have in her time; she has definitely been a voice out of the choir, as you say, and the fact that her bachelor saw the light not without difficulties (you surely know the story of Geffen dropping her, etc.) proves this. The point I was making was instead about the weight her work will assume in the "long term," in music history. With that initial phrase, I meant to avoid taking a stance on the matter because it's not easy to determine whether an artist is worthy of going down in history, and I don’t believe I have the capacity to do so. If I really have to express my (very minor) opinion, I believe that while those so-called artists you mentioned (girl bands, etc.) won’t make even a step in the history of music, Aimee has already carved out her space. But perhaps not due to an absolute masterpiece (like, I don’t know, Blue by Joni Mitchell, or Desertshore by Nico, or Geek the Girl by my beloved Lisa Germano), but for other reasons. Like having had a dignified career as a pop star and then reborn as a committed singer-songwriter, or having maintained a very high and consistent level in her productions for about a decade, or even having written one of the most beautiful and important movie soundtracks (precisely because in the film it acts almost as a narrative engine as well as a commentary) since The Graduate.

WOW so many memories... this was the very first record I ever bought, at 11 years old!!! It's been ages since I listened to it, so giving it a four is not without hesitation... Maybe it was truly a masterpiece and I'm misremembering. They are definitely very underrated, and I haven't heard anything from them since. Thank you for this lovely dive into a recent past: well done!

Hi cptgaio, thanks for the comment, but I think you misunderstood the tone of the review: I started with an "if" just to emphasize that if being truly original and always innovative were necessary to go down in the history of music, then unfortunately Aimee wouldn't make it. I didn't mean to say that I agree with those who think like that; it was just one way to say that Aimee hasn't invented anything, but she makes deserving and elegant records. As for the other albums, I agree with you regarding Lost in Space (I think I made that clear in the text), a little less so for Bachelor. I still believe that they are not "immortal masterpieces" in either case, but that doesn't mean Aimee won't be remembered in the future for those two albums. Sorry for my Italian, I'm a bit tired :)
