MADCAT: I say A and you say B. It is a fact that the musical foundations of punk were laid by the Ramones, and that the Ramones themselves were much more pop than the Pistols, both in music and themes. If, like the Pistols, you aspire to impose yourself in pop culture, you don’t go out of your way to get censored by TV, magazines, and various media. That they enjoyed phenomenal success, due to their excesses and their proclamations, and certainly not because they were easy listening (the Ramones and Buzzcocks were much more so), is a different story.

It seems that, without presumption, you might not have a clear understanding of what the punk scene was like at the time. The Pistols were censored and rejected multiple times, and they rarely compromised. The Ramones, who were fantastic, were much more radio-friendly, both in their music and in their themes. Moreover, it's quite fashionable to trash the Pistols, but that's the price of too much fame and importance—it brings certain side effects. Regards.
