THE REVIEW

I don't know why, but I must review this album. Dire Straits are the example of how to make music: the extraordinary bass, Mark Knopfler's blues/raspy voice, his extraordinary guitar, and the alternative Jazz/blues drums.

The album opens with the wonderful "Tunnel of Love": intro with keyboard, a very peculiar sound, vibrato combined with chorus probably with delay, at 29 seconds the first extraordinary bass that reminds you of the great Dire, at 33 seconds the guitar, with its high and thrilling notes, at 42 seconds Mark Knopfler's voice, wonderful!!! The song evolves into an alternation between instruments, culminating in a progressive solo around 6 minutes... watch out... 7 minutes and 25 seconds... extraordinary descent with the guitar... I will never stop loving those 5 seconds!!

Track number 2: "Romeo and Juliet," extraordinary in its simplicity. Initially, it makes us understand the group's classical influences, leading to their reggae/rock/blues/country, but also simply extraordinary musical expertise.

Track number 3: "Skateaway"... honestly, it's not among my favorites but it still has an extraordinary intro with drums and subsequently electronic organ, and the song evolves in their traditional style.

Track number 4: EXTRAORDINARY "EXPRESSO LOVE": intro with a slightly angry electric guitar, at 9 seconds one two one two three four by Mark Knopfler leading to the exciting keyboard/piano at 12 seconds... After about twenty seconds Mark's voice comes in, at 40 seconds bass and drums create the traditional Dire sound. Then at 2 minutes and 26 seconds, the simple but beautiful guitar solo starts.

Track number 5: "Hand in Hand": starts gently, but at 33 seconds changes sound thanks to the extraordinary guitar, also thanks to the alchemy between the instruments

Track number 6: the fierce "SOLID ROCK" gives the group a slightly more fun and rebellious charge. Another excellent demonstration of Dire's talent

Track number 7: I must say that "Les Boys" was the only one that didn't thrill me, still beautiful, but too repetitive for my taste

Finally: nothing to add, you should all have "Making Movies" by Dire Straits.

Knopfler has turned a corner, realizing he can play his guitar like a magical pied-piper would with his (magic) pipe.

'Romeo and Juliet' will follow Knopfler to the last of his concerts and millions of hearts to the last of their beats.
