Not very lively in 2004, in my opinion. I watch MTV sometimes; there’s worse in life, the same goes for NME.

Can we try to summarize? There are those who believe this album is remarkable, well-produced, and features songs of great depth; there are those (like me) who believe that U2 are on a decline and short on ideas, but the CD is overall pleasant and some criticisms are a bit exaggerated; and there are those who think we are facing a band that is absolutely washed up, having produced an album of terrible quality and that albums of substance are something entirely different (which, the latter, I partially agree with)... since the three positions do not seem likely to change, is it worth continuing to bite at each other? If so, by all means, carry on... otherwise, let's just drop it, please!!!

The album is not simply interesting or nice. It is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Club foot has a devastating power, Reason is Treason is pure adrenaline, with an astonishing final vocal. Irresistible the single LSF, hypnotic Test transmission...a must-have!!!

It's not the case: finding the U2 album enjoyable doesn't mean turning a blind eye to the growing and rampant "media globalization" that holds us captive... We are well aware of the absolute futility of bands like Maroon 5 or Linkin Park, as well as "artists" like Anastacia or Robbie Williams, but to lump U2, Oasis, or R.E.M. into this cauldron means, in my opinion, doing a disservice to those who, for better or worse, have managed to say something, gifting us, in any case, songs that already at the first listen have achieved the status of classics. That said, I also prefer to listen to albums that I consider to be of greater thickness and quality (Kasabian, Sophia, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, The Veils, and others)... cheers!!!

Withdrawing from the scene when you’re at the top is comfortable... everyone will remember you as a great, no one will dare to criticize the choices made, all above reproach... but if you intend to go on, then you need to know how to change skin, take certain paths, try to reinvent your sound, to convey new messages... I believe that all of this is what U2 have tried to do, with that sincere passion for music that has always distinguished them... the result may not always have been the best, but from there to launch a vulgar and unrestrained attack on an absolutely decent album is quite a leap...

But here we deny the most basic rules of democracy. Can we consider that U2 has crafted a beautiful album, filled with grace and energy and capable of evoking emotions, or do you prohibit us from doing so?

I'm not a fan of U2 and listened to the album quickly; it seems decent with a more prominent The Edge compared to the last (modest) album and, at least, an excellent song: Miracle Drug. Don't you think the bitter judgments expressed in the review are a bit exaggerated and over the top (to use a euphemism)? Even Previti, when evaluating the actions of the judges of Miano, seemed more balanced and less resentful to me...

Beautiful record, it glides by with pleasure, and the sublime melancholy it exudes fills the air... magical!

I have also listened to them live, and I really don’t understand all this excitement around them; they’re a mediocre group that endlessly repeats those two or three ideas they have. An album and a band for kids, indeed.

Ouch, this time Sallu (who threatened to beat me up) will have to make peace with me... I also consider this album absolutely essential, halfway between the captivating Interpol and the trendy yet highly effective Strokes. A must-listen in one go.
