Tony Kaye American History X
Voto:
good film, hindered by a certain excess of moralism; a great Norton, but on the neo-Nazi theme I prefer Romper Stomper
Joel Coen Il Grande Lebowski (1998)
Voto:
one of the funniest movies of recent years
Russ Meyer Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens (1979)

I really don’t see any similarity with Brass, apart from the shared obsession for a specific female anatomical part (the ass in Brass, the breast in Meyer). But the differences between the two are enormous: Meyer has a style that mixes comedy, eroticism, pulp, and even some twists on gore/splatter; some of his films, like this one, seem like comics or cartoons, they are so colorful, grotesque, and filled with absurd characters. Brass is just a director of banal erotic films, who believes (for some unknown reason) that he is a great artist.
Brian De Palma Scarface
Voto:
the most beautiful film by De Palma and one of the best gangster movies ever made.
Russ Meyer Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens (1979)

There's not much to say: that old pig Russ Meyer was a genius, and with his delirious films, he spat on the values and morals of bigoted and sexist America. This one is among my favorites, one of the most provocative but also quite surreal and "comic-like." Beautiful also is Up where Hitler gets sodomized (as you also say, Nazism was one of the taboos he loved to joke about) and Faster Pussycat! which has now become legendary. Great review, you're awesome.

If that's the case, it reminds me quite a bit of Wilder's "Stalag 17" as well, but rather than just copying, I’d say they are conscious citations.

I almost forgot the beautiful "Detenuto In Attesa Di Giudizio" and "Mary Per Sempre," two of my favorites. But "Animal Factory" isn't bad either.

that's "Brother Where Art Thou?" by the Coen brothers, but I didn't like it much. Instead, one that I've always loved is "In the Name of the Father," a great film.

Even "Chicken Run," if you want, can be considered a prison movie...
Don Siegel Fuga Da Alcatraz
Voto:
perhaps the worst prison movie in history
