I know very well that Heimat has a significantly longer duration (by the way, you didn't count the third chapter, another 11 hours), in fact, I don’t think I wrote anywhere that this is "the longest film in history." So if a film lasts 5 hours, is it wrong to say that it is long, because there’s Heimat which lasts even longer, right?

Sure, I’ll look for them right away, thanks for the tips galakordi. A few years ago, since I was in Copenhagen on vacation, I couldn’t resist and went to take a look at the legendary Riget in person: if I had had a walkman with the MZ album, it would have been perfect!

What exquisite little people these MZ412 are! Anyway, I'm downloading "Nordik Battle Signs" because a satanic mantra can always come in handy...

I confirm that the film was released in cinemas, at least in Europe and America. In Italy, very few copies were distributed, but both the first and the second were also screened at the Venice Film Festival (I believe out of competition).

The '73 one is a masterpiece. This must be a film that is nothing short of pointless.

M.Poletti, the only pathetic one here is you. Besides a massive dose of arrogance and presumption, your intervention shows a wit worthy of Giuliano Ferrara (and I assure you, I don't say that as a compliment). To say that people today hate the church just because it’s fashionable is truly an absurd statement; as if there weren’t more than legitimate reasons to feel "a little" resentment: without even delving into history (the usual things like the absurd sale of indulgences, the Crusades, the terrorist Inquisition, the bloody Conquistadores, etc.), let’s remain in the 20th century: what do you think about the Vatican's support for the Franco regime in Spain, for Hitler's Nazism, and for Italian fascism? Do you remember the handshake between Pope John Paul II and his little buddy Pinochet? And the continued refusal of contraception, consciously promoting the spread of deadly epidemics around the world? Quite a lot of nice things, indeed. Don’t you think it's valid to hate those who oppress and try to impose their will to control? The thirst for money and power, to control and regulate every aspect of our lives, these are the true aims of the clergy (and I'm not referring to the local priest, who maybe just aspires to sleep with a few children). I feel sorry for you. No, actually, I disgust you.

I think Mullan's intentions were to create a kind of protest film, sober and realistic, appealing to the broadest audience possible. Instead, Russell's visionary style, so openly provocative, would have likely given it an entirely different framing; it surely would have taken away much of its "accessibility"; and in my opinion, there was a need for a film like Magdalene to be seen by as many people as possible. That said, I want to emphasize that I admire Russell's genius and that "The Devils" is a great film.

Damn, these nuns really hit hard; but that's certainly not news, anyone who has gone to nursery with priests (or nuns) knows what those damned Bible-kissing perverts are capable of. This film is truly beautiful, I would say it's necessary; if it had been directed by Ken Russell of "The Devils," it would have been a different film, but not necessarily better.

in the sense that it’s less "music video-like" than his other films? Maybe that's a good thing...

it's not my favorite LVT, but it's still a really nice film
