For me, The Simpsons have been past their prime for a while; I haven't liked the latest seasons at all. We're now in a zone of monotony, with the same situations repeating, and it seems to me (but maybe it's just my impression) that they've lost a lot of their original sarcasm, and the truly brilliant ideas have become increasingly rare (which is understandable after 18 years). South Park is often very (sometimes too much) vulgar and perhaps suffers from excessive cynicism, but scattered here and there are some strokes of genius that literally make me laugh out loud, in a way that The Simpsons have never managed to do... for me, the South Park series is a masterpiece, although objectively more "discontinuous" than The Simpsons and less child-oriented (but that's not necessarily a flaw).
