Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

If you haven't read the discussion, Marco and I had an argument a few days ago about this issue... then we made up, and I don't want to start more fights... look, it's not a 'forced perspective full of prejudices.' If I speak this way, it means I know people who think like that about it. Just the other evening, a friend of mine said that when he listens to Led Zeppelin, he focuses on the guitar riffs, the solos, etc., and I was thinking what a boring way he must have to perceive music... but let's say I understand it... he’s a bassist...

nice easyyy...!...Marco it's not about disrespecting, it’s just that at some point it gets a bit boring to listen to music in order to catch the solo, the scale, or the damn tapping...at least for me. Anyway, no more discussions, we are at peace..

Fidia, in short, I'm not stupid... will you stop messing with me?... will you stop acting superior?... it's always the same story... I remind you that you don't necessarily deal with fifteen-year-old idiots...

However, let's not trivialize... we also need to contextualize the discussions... talking about Nirvana and talking about Carmen Consoli doesn't seem exactly the same thing to me... these discussions about commercial music have nothing to do with it... the concept I want to express is that, in my opinion, it's too easy to create the image of the intellectual singer-songwriter when one frequents certain types of environments like the festivalbar... that's all... it doesn't seem hard to understand. It's like a middle school kid comparing his culture with a fifth grader's... obviously he surpasses him, but you can't say that he has a 360-degree culture... as for commercial music, I don't agree with you... the number of records sold has nothing to do with it... for me, a band is commercial when it composes solely and exclusively to sell without proposing any message of any kind... this is what I can subjectively say...

You didn't understand my reasoning... I'm an enormous fan of Nirvana, believe me, the example you made fits perfectly... I'm not saying and I've never thought that commercial music is terrible overall... on the contrary, I listen to Nirvana and many other largely commercial bands... but at least they are openly and clearly commercial... they don't try to act cool with linguistic, musical, or vocal tricks... she is too studied, fake... and she is undeniably overrated... I don't find any compositional skill in someone who writes absolutely meaningless lyrics filled with absurd big words, lyrics without concepts that only impress the ignorant... I study philology and I can tell you that this is the typical case of 'parodic composition'... that is, when big words are used, specifically in a 'grandiose style', to describe minimal and low-value situations... the result is that the text ends up being like a parody, a joke... but she doesn't understand it... she is IGNORANT!
