Speaking of rolling, when I first listened to their latest album I was blown away. These old-timers are still great.

Yes John, the Beatles were devotees of the old, hard and pure American rock. Too far apart to go progressive. Just thinking of the Rolling Stones as progressive makes me burst into laughter, hehehehe. Each to their own vocation.

The Beatles, being the clever tricksters they were, took advantage of the trends of the moment and even had the insight (Lennon) to realize that something was budding. It's no coincidence that "A Day in the Life" is an example of a happy proto-prog, much more refined than Procol Harum. I agree. The Beatles progressive? Bleh. They undoubtedly had other musical interests; otherwise, they would have delved deeper into the discussion. For instance, in the White Album, there’s simply nothing that resembles proto-prog, it seems to me.

Be careful, Ciruzzo, don’t say trash but thrash; otherwise, someone might take it the wrong way. It’s apparently a mortal sin.

Charlie don't surf but we think he should. Great quote from Sandinista. True, Mariaelena, there's a lack of reference to Heart of Darkness, but everyone does that...

Yes, sterbus, I have many friends who learned by ear. Someone told me that even Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits learned that way.
