I think it's unfair to define grunge as all garbage. Alright, Nirvana may not be the best in terms of composition and music; they're indeed too repetitive, but the same could be said about early punk before it evolved into more complex sounds. Grunge didn’t have much time to evolve since it was short-lived. On the other hand, we must acknowledge that it helped bury a stagnant rock trend (late '80s), in my opinion, and reevaluate values that were less hedonistic and polished, typical of those years. Those glam bands like Poison and Bon Jovi aimed at hormone-driven teenage girls were unbearable (I apologize to fans of those bands, but I really can't stand them).
