Yes, I have decided to write a review on an album that I believe everyone knows: 'The Final Countdown'.
I decided to write it because, while browsing debaser, I found only one review of this album, poorly accurate, and it didn't discuss the individual songs. In my opinion, this album contains many beautiful songs, but they are often underestimated. Anyway, going in order, we find the title track, a great rock song, in which John Norum delivers a beautiful solo, and Michaeli on keyboards creates one of the most famous riffs in the world…
But moving on, we find two stunning songs: Rock the Night and Carrie, where in the first one, Europe creates, in my opinion, one of their best songs, while the second is more relaxed and melodic, and nevertheless, they are always featured in live performances. Only ''good'' are Danger on the Track and Ninja, which precede one of my favorites: Cherokee. The song talks about the Native Americans and is very well performed. After Time Has Come (interesting keyboard riffs), comes Heart of Stone, one of the best on the album in my opinion, although I don't understand why it's never played live, the same goes for the following song, On The Loose. Played perfectly, it's simpler than the previous one, as it's based on a single rhythm that will be repeated throughout the three minutes and ten seconds of the song. The album closes with Love Chaser, a decent song, perhaps because I have dedicated less listening to it, yet featuring a great solo.
Many don't like this album, but I believe it is excellent in its genre. Needless to say, for those who love the five Swedes, this CD is a must-have… … … . .
Ah, these are Europe! I haven’t heard such pompous synths since the days of Emerson Lake & Palmer!
I’ve always hoped that when that missile took off it would head straight up Joey Tempest’s ass and rest in peace to his soul!!!
