Despite Euronymous's father destroying the photos his son took of the corpse of his friend Dead, the bootleg by Mayhem "Dawn Of The Blackhearts" is released, featuring one of the photos taken on that occasion on the cover.
1997
Samoth is found guilty of the arson of two churches and sentenced to 2 years in prison.

August 1994: Faust is accused of first-degree murder, arson of a church, desecration of graves and other sacred places, illegal possession of weapons and dynamite (a hunting rifle and some knives are found in his apartment). He is sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Faust talks about the murder: “there's this faggot who approaches me, starts talking to me, and soon shows the intention to hit on me! I pretend to fall for his flattery, lead him into the woods, and stab him 37 times! Then I go home, take a shower, and go to sleep. It was easy to take him out, especially since it was something I had always dreamed of doing! [...] A lot of people from the Norwegian (and Swedish) black scene have talked about me to the police, but there's a particular guy, Mortiis (our first bassist), who today goes around boasting that he sent a coward like me to jail thanks to his testimony. You can't imagine the hatred I feel for this individual, and I swear that the day we meet again, I will break his knees and then ruin his face! Even if I have to wait 15 years, I will have my revenge! He today has his solo project, Mortiis, which I hope no one supports because he’s a bastard, liar, and fake as hell!! [...] Basically, I don't care about them (referring to gay people), but... what do you want me to say?... they’re nice to stab!”

Burzum justifies his actions: "I have been in the service of the Black Circle since '90 and no one ever heard anything about our hermetic/esoteric order. From the moment Euronymous 'joined' it, thanks to his big mouth, everyone in the underground became aware of our activities. This ruined the circle, I got imprisoned, and people started to take an interest in Norway. Euronymous spilled everything, seasoning the stories with a sea of bullshit, they said we were Satan worshippers... I adore Odin, not Satan! The opposite of the Jewish god can be Wotan, but in the Jewish religion, Satan is not Wotan. We do not want Jewish and Hellenic elements in Satanism."
The album "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" is released and dedicated to Euronymous. The bass tracks played by the Count, at the request of Euronymous's parents, are erased and re-recorded by Hellhammer.

January 1994: A series of irrefutable evidence leads to the arrest of Burzum and a sentence of 21 years in prison (the maximum penalty for a Norwegian court) for the murder of Euronymous, the arson of several ancient Christian churches, illegal possession of firearms, desecration of graves, and thefts. Alongside him, Snorre Ruch is sentenced for complicity in the murder.
Many hypotheses regarding the motive for the crime have been put forward: the victim owed Burzum money, and with the profits from the album, Euronymous had paid off his debts instead of providing for the printing of new copies. It is also said that Burzum was jealous of Euronymous's role as Godfather within the Inner Circle. Another motivation is political-religious; the victim had ideas very close to communism (and almost anarchistic), and to fuel his notoriety, he did not hide his satanic beliefs, while Burzum promoted pagan-nationalist ideologies spiced with fantasy/esoteric elements mixed with a fanaticism about racial purity similar to that of the Nazis. Another hypothesis suggests that Euronymous felt his life was in danger after the divinations of a witch and that he initially attempted to attack (trying to use a rifle) Burzum, who responded in self-defense, albeit using a rather heavy hand.

August 10, 1993: Euronymous is found dead on the exterior stairs of his apartment in Oslo. The Norwegian police suspect that the murderer attacked him inside, and as he sought salvation down the stairs, was caught and repeatedly stabbed. Initially, it was believed that the murder was committed by a group of rival Swedish satanists; this idea was based on the deep mutual hatred that these groups harbored for each other, justifying any means necessary to strike at one another. Three days later, a sixteen-year-old girl who was a friend of Euronymous and Count Grishnackh is questioned. She considers the involvement of "the Swedes" improbable, deeming them too cowardly to carry out a murder, and states that she knows the name of the killer but cannot disclose it for fear of retaliation against herself. The fact that the victim had let the killer into his home made her even more certain of his identity.

April 1991: Dead is found dead by suicide, neither Hellhammer nor Euronymous were home at the time. It was Euronymous who found the body; upon returning home, he found the door locked and entered through a window, discovering Dead's body lying in bed, having slit his wrists and subsequently shot himself in the head. Next to the body was the note "...sorry for the blood...". Euronymous, being a sensitive guy, first takes some photographs of the corpse. It is also said that he collected pieces of the skull to make necklaces and some brain matter to eat.
When a journalist asked Euronymous about the photos, he replied: “Even though I was the one who found his lifeless body and had to slalom between the pieces of his brain scattered on the floor, I don’t think Dead's death changed my life much. Sure, he was a friend, but deep down I knew that his greatest wish was... to die! It would have been a mistake to try to dissuade him from that intention because being completely devoted to death means this too! As for the photos of the corpse, it’s true that I took some on that occasion: who wouldn't have? It doesn’t happen every day to come across a real lifeless body... unfortunately!”

The latter suggests taking a walk in a park known to be a meeting place for the local gay community. Faust follows this stranger into the woods and kills him with 37 stab wounds. The police are confused about the identity of the murderer, although many within the Black Metal scene know he is the culprit.
