I've never shared this idea: "sales success = musical value."
I was only saying that it's not true that "sales success = garbage."
But it wasn't directed at you; it was, in general, to those who think that way.

In my opinion, we are discussing something that we think about in the same way, but we express it differently.

But Josi, you see, I actually agree with what you said regarding sales.

But in fact, if someone writes solely with the aim of selling, they are not an artist, that's true. But an artist can write beautiful songs and sell a lot while still remaining an artist. That's all there is to it.

errata corrige: I just want to say that if someone sells a lot, it doesn't automatically mean they're terrible! That's all.

But look, what I'm saying is that those who sell d+ aren't necessarily better than those who sell d-. Up until the 70s-80s, it might have made some sense, but not anymore. Now, someone can sell a billion copies and be terrible at singing, while maybe another person is a genius and still has to pay back the record label. I just want to say that selling a lot doesn’t automatically mean it’s bad! Just this.

There's so much beautiful music out there, but out of 10 talents, maybe only 1 or 2 manage to become famous. And as soon as they achieve fame, there's a strong desire to downsize them, because they've made it big.

But why, excuse me, can’t one expect to create art while also wanting to market it as much as possible? What’s wrong with that? You always end up in the same place: "those who sell don’t make good stuff." And that’s not true! I repeat, those who release an album do it because they want to sell and to earn money, as much as possible. And there’s nothing wrong with that. If you’re an artist and you sell a lot, it doesn’t mean you’re no longer an artist. You’re simply an artist with more money.

Anyway, Sharapova's goal was to become famous, and she succeeded. Do you think she cares if she loses every match 6-0, 6-0? Not at all! As long as she brings home her money. Unfortunately, it's not morally right, but I think at least 8 out of 10 people think like this, just like Sharapova does. Of course, she will be famous, but she will never be considered a great tennis player.

"it's just that achieving commercial success is NOT their goal" no one can know. how can you know. and anyway I don't think that's the case. the problem is that today someone with talent can't emerge because they're overshadowed by all those puppets who pretend to sing, and whom MTV always promotes, because they attract girls and boys. and it's not because they don't want to sell, but come on, who wouldn't want to sell a billion copies a day?
